What is Child Abuse?
Child abuse can be physical, sexual or
emotional, or it can be any form of neglect. It is further defined as
any act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which
results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or
exploitation; or an act or failure to act which presents an imminent
risk or serious harm to any person under the age of 18.
A Three-Sided Approach to Ending Child Abuse
The Family Center offers programs and services for children and adults in three major areas that
focus on helping families by ending the cycles of abusive behavioral
patterns which result in child abuse. Those areas include:
Family Violence
These programs address the issues of family violence and how they
affect both children and adults. New skills help families learn how to identify and deal with family violence. The Exchange Club Family Center also offers a protected venue for child visitations.
Parenting Education
These programs address the conflicts that arise from stressful parenting situations and divorce.
Anger Management
These programs address the issue of anger and explore alternative
problem-solving skills, communication skills, the causes of anger, and
reactions to anger as well as the after effects.
