TEAM UP

24-Hour Hotline
Counselors are on-call at all times to answer questions about reporting abuse and to provide help with emergency situations.
Adult Anger Management for Men and Women
Designed for adults who lack anger management skills. Working with a
trained counselor, clients explore the causes of and reactions to their
anger, aftereffects of their actions, and possible alternative behaviors.
AmeriCorps Program: Project TLC
Members educate Shelby County residents about child abuse, child neglect, and family violence while assisting families who either suffer from or show a risk for abuse or neglect.
CLUES (Children Learning Useful Skills)
Designed for youth ages 8 to 12 who have displayed unruly or disruptive
behavior. This 10-week course provides participants with a forum to
explore topics such as self-esteem, peer pressure, age-appropriate
behaviors, and positive social skills.
Counseling
Whether it is group or individual, counseling is available from trained
counselors for both children and adult clients of the Family Center.
Therapy is designed to help individuals heal from traumatic violence while recognizing, understanding, and learning
to modify the behaviors that have a negative effect on their lives.
Domestic Violence Assessment Center for Adult Offenders
Designed for adult offenders, this program provides comprehensive
clinical evaluations, risk assessments, and specific recommendations for
treatment.
Domestic Violence Program for Adults
Designed for adults who have experienced domestic violence. Clients receive an initial clinical assessment and participate in group therapy. For clients with children, a class designed for children and childcare is offered during the same period.
Domestic Violence Program for Children
Designed for children ages 4 to 18 who have either witnessed or
experienced domestic violence. Children receive an initial clinical
assessment and participate in age-appropriate group therapy.
Caregivers are also provided with educational support and crisis
intervention.
EarnBenefits
Staff members screen individuals and families for financial benefits for housing, medical care, child care, and other needs as well as link them with community resources.
Family Mediation Services
Provides an opportunity for families to maintain control of the decision making process regarding divorce and custody issues and avoid lengthy litigation in court. Services are available for Divorce, Post-Divorce, Property Settlement and Custody/Visitation cases.
First S.T.E.P.S. (Skills To Ensure Parenting Success)
Designed for disadvantaged, first-time teen mothers who show a risk for
becoming abusive or negligent parents.This special in-home intervention
program teaches young mothers how to become responsible parents.
Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin'-By World
Clients with limited financial resources work together in a participatory classroom setting to learn about economic class and to build the 11 resources needed to create economic stability for them and their families.
In-Home Parent Aides
Volunteers trained by the Family Center staff provide in-home
assistance to parents who either have a long-term history or a risk of
abusing or neglecting their children. Aides provide emotional support
and serve as role models while helping families with daily parenting
and household management tasks.
MAP (Male Adolescent Program)
Designed for male adolescents who have shown unruly, disruptive, disorderly, and/or violent behavior at home, school, or in
the community. This program provides a safe forum for teens to look at
behavioral responses. A 10-week program using a comprehensive counseling
format, teaches non-violent problem-solving skills and allows teens to
explore a variety of relationship issues.
Parent Education
Designed to help parents learn the fundamental skills necessary for
parenting. This 10-week course teaches the importance of balancing love
and discipline, building self-esteem, positive discipline techniques,
and preventing parent burnout.
PCIT (Parent Child Interaction Therapy)
Designed to assist parents, who have children age 2 – 6 with significant oppositional behaviors, in learning skills to establish a nurturing relationship with their children while increasing prosocial and decreasing negative behaviors.
Play Therapy
Designed for children ages 2 to 4 who have witnessed or experienced
family violence or child abuse. This program allows younger children to
express emotions,concerns,and fears that they may not be able to fully
verbalize because of their age.
Psychological Assessments
Designed for clients of all ages,this service offers a clinical
evaluation of clients who are referred to the Family Center due to
custody and parenting issues.
Public Education/In-service Training
Staff provide public presentations/training and in-service trainings for teachers and child care workers on child abuse and domestic violence issues.
Rollercoasters (For Children of Divorce)
Designed for children of divorce. This program provides them with an
outlet for the range of emotions that often occur during and following
a divorce, and group counseling offers them ways to deal with the many
issues that arise from divorce.
Safe Exchange
Designed to facilitate safe exchanges of children from one parent to the other parent without contact or conflict occurring with the parents which might negatively impact or traumatize children.
Supervised/therapeutic visitation
Designed to protect children from emotional and psychological trauma by offering a safe and protected environment for visits with non-custodial parents. Therapeutic Visitation adds a structured mental health therapy component to the visits under the guidance of a qualified counselor who uses observation, instruction, modeling, counseling and analysis so that the child receives needed therapy and the parent and child are assisted in repairing and strengthening their relationship.
TAME (Teen Anger Management in Effect)
Designed for teen girls with poor anger management skills and unruly
behavior. A 10-week program,using a comprehensive counseling
format, teaches non-violent problem-solving skills and allows teens to
explore a variety of relationship issues.
The Respect Program
Designed to build resiliency skills in children (ages 2-14) and reduces bullying through literature and artistic expression. Teaches children to manage difficult emotions in healthy ways, to be assertive without being aggressive, and how to develop healthy friendships.
TIPS (Training Intervention for Parents)
Designed for parents of youth who are participating in either
CLUES, TAME, or MAP. This group program provides parents with an
opportunity to explore their own behaviors as causes and reactions to
their children’s anger management issues.
TRANSparenting
Designed for divorcing parents. This 4-hour seminar provides vital
information on the effects of divorce on children. Topics include how
the break-up of the family influences the child, how to avoid common
pitfalls that put children in no-win situations and how to anticipate
the reactions of children during and after the divorce.
