Center Recognizes Outstanding Volunteers For 2010

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – June 17, 2010 – The Exchange Club Family Center, a Midtown non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse, today announced the volunteers that were recently recognized during its annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Center. Among those honored were Donald English, Twana Whitlock, Cheryl Henderson, Dan Petchers, Charmaine Tomlinson, Lucia Heros, Caroline Sposto, Heather Pike, Hilton Worldwide and marketing and communications firm, inferno.

"This year, we are especially thankful for our tireless staff members, hard-working volunteers, interns and generous corporate partners,” said Barbara King, the Center’s executive director. “They make it possible for the Center to continue serving Memphis families struggling with the impact of child abuse and domestic violence."

English was named the Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Center’s Male Anger Management program. Whitlock, Henderson and Petchers each received the Outstanding Agency Volunteer of the Year award. Whitlock and Henderson were recognized for their work with AmeriCorps, and Petchers was honored for his work with the Center’s mentoring program. Tomlinson was honored with the Jim Dahlberg Parent Aide of the Year for her work in the Parent Aide program.

Heros, Sposto and Pike were all named Community Volunteers of the Year for their roles in the success of the Center’s largest fundraiser, the Hands of Hope Auction Party. Hilton Worldwide and inferno were both named the Corporate Volunteers of the Year. Hilton was honored for selecting the Center to participate in its Nonprofit Partnership Program earlier this year and inferno, the Center’s agency of record, was honored for its pro-bono work, including marketing and public relations support.

About the Exchange Club Family Center
The mission of the Exchange Club Family Center is to provide quality intervention, counseling and support services to those families in the Memphis community who are experiencing the tragedies of family violence or child abuse. The Center was opened locally in 1984 with one class and a staff of three. It has since expanded to twenty programs and more than 30 staff members and volunteers. Last year, more than 5,000 clients and family members were served.
