Center Receives United Way G. Bradley Wanzer Award for Excellence |
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – October
2012- The Exchange Club Family Center, an area non-profit
agency dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse and domestic
violence, has been named the recipient of the United Way G. Bradley
Wanzer, Jr., Award For Excellence. The award includes a $25,000 grant,
which the Center will use to support its services and programs that
assist those impacted by family violence and abuse.
“We are extremely honored to be selected by the Wanzer family, the
panel of judges and the United Way of the Mid-South to receive this
year’s award,” said Barbara King, executive director of the Center.
“This very generous gift will help continue the work our staff is doing
in the community to put an end to the cycle of child abuse and domestic
violence for area children and families.”
The United Way G. Bradley Wanzer Jr., Award for Excellence honors G.
Bradley Wanzer’s 31-year career and legacy by honoring United Way
agencies in the Mid-South community who demonstrate the highest
standards of service. The award focuses on a non-profit’s work in
accountability, collaborations with other non-profit organizations in
the Mid-South, outcome measurements and its partnership with the United
Way of the Mid-South.
King accepted the award from G. Bradley Wanzer’s wife, Sally, and son,
Bradley, during a recent ceremony held as part of the United Way’s Day
of Caring kickoff rally. The event honored the work of hundreds of
non-profit volunteers from across the Mid-South.
“The United Way is thrilled to honor the work The Exchange Club Family
Center is doing in our community,” said Bryce Haugsdahl, President of
the United Way of the Mid-South. “The Center’s commitment to local
families in crisis has clearly made an impact and we look forward to
our continued partnership with Barbara and her staff.”

About The Exchange Club
Family Center
The mission of The Exchange Club Family Center is to provide quality
intervention, counseling and support services to those families in the
Memphis community who are experiencing the tragedies of family violence
or child abuse. The Center was opened locally in 1984 with one class
and a staff of three. It has since expanded to 24 programs
with more than 35 staff members. Last year, more than 5,000
