How We Help

We offer programs & services to help end child abuse and family violence.

Most of the individuals and families we help are referred to us by the Family Safety Center, local courts (including Juvenile Court), Department of Children's Services, school guidance counselors, or attorneys. Classes and individual appointments must be scheduled in advance, through an intake process that may include an assessment.

Our services fall into four program areas:

counseling & education

The Family Center offers a comprehensive, trauma-focused intervention services for children, adults and whole families affected by violence. Services include individual counseling, group therapy, play therapy for very young children, comprehensive anger management, and mentoring for teen parents who are at risk for violent behavior.

visitation services

As part of the national Supervised Visitation network, the Family Center provides a safe, comfortable, age-appropriate, supervised setting for non-custodial parents to be with their children. We also provide Safe Exchange, offering a safe and neutral location for exchanging children without the parents interacting directly with one another.

domestic violence assessment center (DVAC)

The Domestic Violence Assessment Center (DVAC) provides comprehensive, clinical assessment and treatment recommendations for individuals charged with intimate partner domestic violence offenses and referred for evaluation by the criminal court.

CASA (court appointed special advocates)

In 2013 CASA of Memphis became a program within the Family Center. CASA trains community volunteers to serve as advocates for children in cases of dependency and neglect. Each CASA has a caseload of one, working with that individual child to assess his or her social, emotional, physical, and mental needs, with a goal of placement in a safe, permanent home.
